It’s a phenomenon that few people could have predicted.
Fulltime Mums, usually thought to have finished with their careers, are taking the business world by storm with their fresh ideas and home-based companies.
Entrepreneur and founder of the ‘Cosy Shopper’, Lisa Penn, says she believes that more UK Mums should consider working from their homes. “The reason I set up my own business was so I could do something that I really enjoy, and have the free time and flexibility around my children which you cannot get working for a company.”
Lisa believes that the secret to her success was discovering a gap in the baby marketplace that needed to be filled. “I looked at the baby bucket seats in the supermarkets, and they were usually so dirty and uncomfortable. I thought – what would I like to use? So I invented a protective seat cover with a matching blanket, that can be used on infant carrier seats and baby buckets to keep them warm and stop them from getting grubby.”
The Cosy Shopper is about to make an appearance on Dragons Den Online in June. To see how Lisa gets on visit her website.
Although Lisa understands that some fulltime Mums might feel apprehensive about starting their own companies, she says the key is confidence. “If you can raise a child, you can do anything!”
